Meet Jared Troutman

Jared and his wife Becky are spending their lives with three daughters: Barrett(12) – Kembrey(7) -Quinlan(4.5), who are here to experience the full breadth of human life.

Days are filled with imaginative play outdoors or in the remodeled basement, convincing Mom to have a Disney+ movie night, headed to lacrosse or soccer practice, riding bikes, coloring, visiting friends and family, splashing around at the ERRA pool, playing Catan, baking together, or learning how to read.

Professional History

Despite successful careers as a social worker and then a regional manager for a waterpark management company, at the age of 35 (and while pregnant with our third child), Jared had an early onset financial mid life crisis, like many other families do:

  • Why were we not debt free?
  • How would we help our children with college?
  • Why isn’t career success translating into a feeling of financial success?

Jared’s way of responding to these questions was reading and re-educating himself, reading nearly every main stream personal finance book he could get his hands on.

He and his wife Becky would have numerous discussions about what kind of life they wanted to live, where they wanted to live it, and how they wanted to support their children.  And while they didn’t always know what the right step was, they had faith that it was worth trying something –  and did.

This entire process opened Jared’s eyes to the world of personal financial planning.  He realized that his passion to help people could be integrated with his natural knack for mathematics and analytical thinking. Shortly thereafter, he found work in the financial services field and spent the next four years absorbing information from experienced colleagues.  Jared would spend his nights taking additional college courses required for him to sit for the Certified Financial Planner™ exam.

These were all lean years for a young family, but Jared  followed the belief that if he became the best financial planner that he could be — a better life would result for everyone around him.

Being Financial launched in November of 2020, when Jared left a well-established practice in Charlottesville to begin his own with the Prudential family of services as his back office.

Meet Nathan Leo

Nathan Leo recently joined the Being Financial team as he begins his journey into the financial planning career.

Nathan obtained his bachelor’s degree from William Patterson University, where he was the goalie on the school’s Ice Hockey team.  He’s originally from Little Ferry, New Jersey, where he played for the New Jersey Hitmen, the top team in the United States Premier Hockey League.

Nathan also had an interesting job prior to leaving New Jersey, where he worked on TV and movie sets in the New York/New Jersey area.  He made his way to Virginia with his girlfriend, as she is attending physician’s assistant school in the Richmond area.
